After a great deal of personal debate I decided to go with the Asus U35F because of the overall build, less than an inch thick, long run time, and a much stronger processor than you would get in any netbook or culv laptop. After playing with it for a while I would say that for the most part I love this laptop. The build quality very good, the keyboard is better than most and the touch pad is very nice. For those that may be wondering the touchpad is slightly pitted so you can feel when you are on it. I set it up so that a 2-finger tap is a right mouse click and a 3-finger tap closes the active window.
As for the decision to go without the dedicated graphics…it plays every type of streaming video file I can throw at it including 1080P youtube videos without a single studder or issue. For those of you that think you are going to find a use for the dedicated graphics I think you are fooling yourselves. There is not much you can’t do without it other than play graphic intensive games and you can’t really do that with a 310M anyway.
On the negative side…this is the worst screen I have ever used in terms of vertical viewing angle. I do not exagerate when I say that you have about 10 degrees up or down before you get serious color inversion and whiteout if you are above the screen.
All in all though since you should generally be directly in front of the screen and I’m sure other screens in this price range are not the best on the market either I would reccomend this laptop to anyone. Overall awesome laptop!

2.4 GHz i3 processor, 4GB RAM, under $700. . . That’s good! This is what I was looking for because I wanted a cheap computer that could run something link MATLAB and other similar programs well enough.
Great battery life. I have been using it for a several hours now and I think that it will easily get 8 hours in the end while casually surfing the web. Of course, this is with the “super hybrid engine” turned on. I think it is feasible to get 10 hours, but not if you are actually using the computer non stop at a reasonable intensity. We will see though. I guess if I wanted to I could make the screen dimmer too to get more battery life.
It’s a personally preference, but I do like the smaller size, chiclet keyboard, and brushed aluminum. It doesn’t bother me, but I know it drives other people nuts, so I will warn you that the brushed aluminum is a finger print magnet.
I had previously purchased a UL30A-A2 that turned out to have a faulty hard drive. Fortunately, Amazon took it back and I upgraded to this computer. I would have originally purchased this computer, but I never saw it until I was looking for a replacement because for some reason Amazon’s filter makes it hard to find.

I’m liking this notebook so far. I’m used to a glossy screen so this one will take some getting used too. The size is perfect. I love the keyboard. The chiclet keyboard makes typing so easy and comfortable. I don’t miss the optical drive. So far, so good. It’s very lightweight.
There are two little things: The hard drive makes little noises that sounds like bees buzzing. I looked it up and it seems this is normal. I just haven’t experienced it before with my HP DV6646 or Dell Mini 9. The other thing is that the mouse buttons are hard to click. It will just take some getting used to I suppose.
